Farming vs Trophy Hunting

What is the difference between farming and trophy hunting?

Farming:

Farming is when the Town Hall is generally placed away from the defensive structures and the defenses are focused on protecting their resources (normally gold).

Why is the Town Hall left undefended?

It gives the player a free shield from other players. This ensures that their resources are protected from others at a minimum of 12 hours due to the shield. Also, many people will just attack the Town Hall rather the resources and your resources are untouched and ready for you to come back.

What is the point of farming?

It is used to upgrade the defenses quicker without having to worry about loads of people taking your loot.



What Town Hall Level should I begin farming at?

I suggest beginning as soon as possible. You will likely be actively farming all the way up through Town Hall 9. I honestly don't suggest trophy hunting until you are a well developed Town Hall 9 or your clan is doing a trophy hunt!

What trophy range should I be farming at?

It varies from time to time, but generally the trend I've seen for gold and elixir:

Town Hall Level	Trophy Range
6	800-1000
7	900-1200
8	1200-1600
9	1600+

Note that there is a little overlapping between some of the ranges. It strongly depends on the timing. Sometimes it is great to farm in one area over another.

If you are looking for Dark Elixir farming, you want to go to the trophy range of 1700+.

Trophy Hunting:

What is trophy hunting?

Trophy hunting, as the title suggests, is simply trying to get as many trophies as you can possibly get. It is the overall goal of the game and it is what clan rank is based on. Usually air defenses play a large role in successful trophy hunting.

If it is what the game is focused on, why do you suggest farming over it at lower Town Hall levels?

I suggest farming because it allows you to prepare your base to withstand stronger attacks. You don't really need to trophy hunt unless your clan is doing a trophy push or you are Town Hall 9+.

What do trophy hunting bases look like?

These bases focus on protecting the Town Hall most of all. They also try to protect as many objects on their base as possible to try and avoid getting 1-starred. The object is to keep the base compact and protect as much of it as possible. However, these bases are less worried about losing resources than they are about trophies.

Hybrid Bases:

What is a hybrid base?

This base typically tries to protect both the Town Hall and the resources at the same time. These bases also typically have the option to move the Town Hall inside of the walls or outside depending on whether they want to trophy hunt or farm.

What is the point of a hybrid base?

It is much more convenient than having to restructure your entire base. All you simply have to do is move the Town Hall inside or outside of the base.
